Bob Seow Tan, Dreamworld's General Manager of Engineering & Technical, told Roller-Coaster.com.au that the first conveyor and drop, the smaller of the ride's two drops is currently being replaced. The new version will be the same height and have the same profile as the original, but the replacement was needed because of corrosion and rust issues related to the 23 year-old ride. The new hill will also give much easier access to maintenance personnel at the park, and make it a more maintenance-friendly system.
The ride is expected to be operational again May 21.
The new hill can be seen under construction in Roller-Coaster.com.au's latest Dreamworld update gallery, which also features the progress to date of Dreamworld's next major thrill ride. See the update here.
This year's annual maintenance period for Rocky Hollow Log Ride is a bit longer than usual. Where most rides go down for a week or so, the Log Ride is currently in the middle of a three-and-a-half week maintenance period. The reason? The ride's first drop is being entirely replaced.
